SIMtone Corporation Acquires ASPEED Software to Expand
the Availability, Scalability and Performance of Cloud Computing
Kurt Ziegler, CEO of ASPEED Software, to Lead Newly Formed SIMtone High Performance Computing Division
Durham, NC February 6, 2008 - SIMtone Corporation, a privately held company delivering the next virtual computing paradigm, today announced the acquisition of ASPEED Software, a leading provider of application acceleration and optimization solutions. The acquisition enables SIMtone to offer its customers with optimized scalability and performance on the server side of the cloud. Together with the company's universal dialtone technology and virtual desktop platform, ASPEED's patented technology adds a new dimension to scaling and optimally exploiting server and hardware platforms. It also improves the economics of virtualization platforms offered by VMware, Microsoft and XenSource. As part of the acquisition, Kurt Ziegler, CEO of ASPEED Software, will now serve as Executive Vice President of the company's newly formed SIMtone High Performance Computing (HPC) division.
ASPEED Software is well known at leading Wall Street firms for enabling their computational intensive risk management applications to quickly and effectively leverage multi-core, cluster, grid and virtualized environments, as well as provide a smooth transition from shared memory Unix systems to more economical and scalable Linux- and Windows-based platforms.
"We are very excited to have Kurt and the ASPEED team join the SIMtone family as the new HPC division," explained Mario Dal Canto, SIMtone Corporation's Chairman of the Board and Chief Executive Officer. "ASPEED technology broadly applied to the SIMtone end-to-end Virtual Cloud Computing platform will deliver an unparalleled virtual desktop user experience and expand the scalability and availability of the applications and servers. SIMtone HPC products and services offer a low-cost, better-than-PC SIMtone virtual desktop and application user experience across any network, delivering unparalleled economic, ecologic and usability value to operators, government agencies, enterprise organizations and small businesses."
SIMtone's virtual desktop services leverage its universal dialtone technology, allowing users to securely and seamlessly access their virtual desktop from PCs, terminals and mobile devices. SIMtone VDU service delivers a virtualized, fully accessible and secure "PC in the cloud" experience to end users while eliminating the need for enterprise organizations to purchase and maintain costly layers of technology infrastructure that is typically associated with supporting distributed computing environments.
"ASPEED technology is uniquely suited to measurably provide a competitive service edge to SIMtone services by expanding desktop and application server capacity across virtual machines by optimizing and balancing the workload within and among multiple servers," explained Kurt Ziegler. "We were delighted to see the number of clients that we have in common as the focus continues to be on solutions that provide the performance and economics only affordable by virtualization."
As part of the acquisition, SIMtone will continue to support and expand the ASPEED customer base and relationships with Intel, Microsoft and its other business partners. "The newly formed High Performance Computing division has the mission to aggressively market the ASPEED application acceleration product line and, in parallel, apply the technology to advance the SIMtone's service offerings to leverage the virtualization platforms and effectively apply multi-core technologies to service delivery," added Mr. Dal Canto.
